Minnesota Beatle Project Vol. 5 features musicians rooted in the Minnesota music scene, but whose collective reach extends well beyond the state’s borders. Multi-instrumentalist ‘maximalist’ Dosh (also known for his drumming in Andrew Bird’s band), City Pages’ “Best New Band 2013,” Carroll, Minneapolis rockers The Suburbs, and Grammy-winning The Okee Dokee Brothers are part of this year’s collection. The release also features a 60’s soul icon and a Duluth-based high school jazz band to round out the lineup.
Vega Productions launched the Minnesota Beatle Project in 2009 with partner and presenting sponsor 89.3 The Current. Like the first four installments, Vega Productions will donate 100 percent of net proceeds from the sale of the album to support music education in Minnesota. This year, this support will be channeled through Instruments In The Cloud, a cloud-based program that increases student access to musical instruments and solicits instrument donations for music programs in Minnesota public schools. The service also serves as a management tool for music educators in public schools to inventory their instrument stock, share instruments with neighboring schools, check instruments out to students or for repair, and more.
